This course introduces the required topics in chemistry that consitute the basis for subsequent courses within the program dealing with air, water and soils. Topics covered include gaseous state of matter, reaction rates and chemical equilibrium, oxidation - reduction, nuclear chemistry, and an introduction to organic chemistry and biochemistry. Examples and applications are selected from environmental systems and processes.
