This pharmacology course builds on the foundational knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology, and microbiology to teach students the safe and effective administration of medications to patients. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of drug classifications, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. They will also learn about the various routes of drug administration including oral, topical, intravenous, and intramuscular, and how to choose the appropriate route for a particular patient and medication. Additionally, the course will cover important topics such as drug interactions, adverse reactions, and contraindications. Students will also learn about the legal and ethical considerations surrounding medication administration including documentation, informed concern, and patient confidentiality. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of Canadian medications and be well equipped to provide safe and competent medication administration to patients.
